6Some of the development of the ZOO-Project is coordinated through IRC. This page
7describes how you log on to chat, ask questions, and hack around with the
     8developers.

     10Server and Channel Information
     11------------------------------
     12
     13::
     14
     15  Server: irc.freenode.net
     16  Channel: #zoo-project
     17
     18Why IRC?
     19--------
     20
21IRC is a primary medium where Open Source GIS hackers congregate, collaborate,
22and hack. It makes it easy to communicate things like compilation issues,
23where immediate, iterative feedback allows folks to make a lot of progress.
24Something that might take days of heavily-quoted emails through a mailinglist
25might only take fifteen minutes on IRC.
     26
27IRC is a great way to coordinate on-line meetings. The ZOO PSC conducts their
     28monthly meetings through IRC.
     29
     30How do I join?
     31--------------
     32
     33`Chatzilla <http://chatzilla.hacksrus.com/>`__ is
34probably the easiest way to get going. Chatzilla works with Mozilla or
35Firefox, and once you have it installed, you can log on to the channel by
     36pointing your browser at::
     37
     38  irc://irc.freenode.net/#zoo-project
     39
40There are many other IRC clients available. `This page
41<http://tikiwiki.org/ConnectingToIrc>`__ provides a good listing for many
     42different platforms.
     43
44You can also connect to IRC directly in your Web browser without a client:
     45
     46- goto http://webchat.freenode.net/
47- enter a nickname (usually your first initial plus your last name)
     48- in "Channels" enter: zoo-project
     49- Connect!

     6ZOO-Discuss
     7-----------
     8
9The ``zoo-discuss`` list is your main source of support for the ZOO-Project.
     10
     11- **Subscribing to zoo-discuss**
     12
13  To subscribe to the zoo-discuss listserv visit
14  http://gisws.media.osaka-cu.ac.jp/mailman/listinfo/zoo-discuss. You can later change
15  your subscription information or leave the list at this website.
     16
     17- **Submitting Questions to zoo-discuss**
     18
19  To submit questions to the zoo-discuss listserv, first join the list by
20  following the subscription procedure above. Then post questions to the list by
21  sending an email message to zoo-discuss@gisws.media.osaka-cu.ac.jp.
     22
     23- **Searching the Archives**
     24
25  All zoo-discuss archives are located in
26  http://gisws.media.osaka-cu.ac.jp/pipermail/zoo-discuss/. Searching the archives is
     27  best done with `Nabble <http://zoo-discuss.1049523.n5.nabble.com/>`__.
